Title Sequence Target Audience (True Detective)

Opening title sequence for True Detective

1. Age

In my opinion, the feeling I got from the opening title sequence in this series is that the age group that it is aimed at is 20 -  40 year olds, with some exceptions of viewers being older and younger. The reason I think it is aimed at this kind of age group is because from the title sequence a lot of the shots were old school and classic. Nowadays it is hard to attract younger audience into a film/series that isn't modern and up to date with the latest trends.

2. Gender

From the title sequence I would imagine the series is based for male gender as in the title sequence all we see is 2 men, cars, pubs which are stereotypically directed at men. The only female in the title sequence are crazy looking or erotic dancers.

3. Lifestyle

The lifestyle of the viewers is a typical lifestyle of majority of young/ middle-aged adult. They have a normal 9-5 job, earning a normal amount (Not minimum wage but also not thousands of £ a day). In their free time they most likely like to spend the time either in front of the tv if it's bad weather or outside either alone or with family doing some sort of activities.

4. Favourite Book/Film/ Game

The audience from this series mainly like books and films that are crime based and also detective based, they like films that have a lot of action and conflict going on. The books some of the audience maybe liked were 'The Thursday Murder Club' by Richard Osman and 'The Guest List' by Lucy Foley. The films they might of liked were '21 bridges', 'Ride Along' and many other Crime/ Detective movies. In my opinion, the main target audience for this series were passed the stage of playing games as they had more important things to do like work, than play games that's why I personally think there wasn't a favourite game for the main target audience.

5. Something they like to do on the weekend.

The typical viewer of this show, on the weekend would most likely spend his time either with his family or doing work. If they have a family, then they would probably go out for lunch go shopping and also visit some attractions to spend the weekend the best way possible, alternatively they could also spend this time with family inside watching movies or any other activities inside. If they don't have a family then most likely on the weekend they either spend their time at home doing work, on the the occasion watch a series/movie, or alternatively they might go out to the pub and spend their time with friends.

6. Where they go on holiday

The audience from this series are mainly people that earn a normal amount, not a fortune but also enough to go on a decent holiday. In my opinion the places they would usually go on holiday would be the top most visited destinations for holiday; Spain,Greece,Croatia. Some of the viewers might be people that like to travel around the world so they would travel somewhere else rather than the most visited destinations.

7.Worries

The audience will have all sort of worries from their everyday lives, that can differ from job issues to health issues. The worries in True Detective are that they won't be able to hunt down the serial killer or find a solution to the problem. The similarities between the series and the audience is that both the audience and the series have the worries of failing and not reaching a goal or completing something they needed to do.

8. Job

In my opinion, the typical viewer of this series would have a job where he earns above average salary. These job could vary from, electricians  to lawyers. Some of the viewers will be in a different position in their job due to their age or even how long they have worked there. I would think that the viewers occupations could be, sales colleague or some sort of office work like an accountant or executive assistant.  They most likely either like or love their job as some of these job require qualifications to get into. They are happy and proud of the job they have and the position they are in and some of them might even try to get into a higher position.

9. Dress Sense

I would imagine that the typical viewer of this series will have some dress sense. I don't think they have some high fashion sense but I would imagine that they have some dress sense and know how to dress at least casually and formally. I would believe that they have some branded clothes and try to stay up to date with the latest fashion like most people that aren't even into fashion try and do. I don't think that the typical viewer would be wearing a tracksuit all day long no matter the occasion. I would imagine the viewer to be dressed in a normal polo, jeans and some decent looking shoes that all match and have some colour sense. Colour wise I think they stick to basic colours and nothing too bold as they most likely don't want to be too flashy and don't want everyone looking at them.

10. Politics

The show is an indictment of the State and the perverse elites who run it. The typical audience for this show will most likely follow politics really well and is aware of all the latest political news and hold their ground hard when it comes to political views and that their view is correct and that all others are wrong.

11. Spending power

I would think that the average viewer would have only couple of hundred pounds left. After all their bills and expenses like food, body care and other household items that are brought on a monthly basis I would assume they would have no more than £250 a month to spend on activities like cinema or going out with friends. £250 might seem like a lot but if they go out 2 times a week that 8 times a month on average their budget is only £31.25, which is nothing as an average meal out costs about £22 per person and an average cinema ticket costs £10.

Task 2

Murder

In the series, there is a lot of murder and attempted murder. In the first series we focus on the  2 main characters that are on the hunt to try and find a serial killer over a 17-year period. In the 2nd season, we focus on 3 detectives from three different cooperating police departments investing crimes they think link to a murder of a corrupt politician. In the final season, we are again presented with 3 detectives that over three separate time periods investigate a macabre crime involving two missing children.

Music

The whole theme of the series is western and country as it is set in Louisiana, Arkansa and other country states in America, so for that reason the music will be country music with a bit of dark tone there as it also has crime and violence. The music that is used is  'Far From Any Road' by The Handsome Family that was released in 2003.
